Fueling and hydration are two crucial workout components for athletes. If either one is overlooked, you’re going to suffer. There are many options out there, and it’s often a process of trial and error to find a product that you like – and that doesn’t cause any stomach issues.

Here’s a list of my favorite plant-based options for fueling and rehydrating. They all pass my taste and quality test.

Vega Sport

Vega Sport Electrolyte Hydrator is formulated with all the essential electrolytes your body needs to stay hydrated during workouts. It tastes great too – a big plus. Just mix the powder in your water bottle and you’re good to go.

Tailwind Nutrition

Tailwind is my go-to.

With Tailwind, you can ditch the gels, bars, chews and pills – it replaces them all.

Tailwind is a powder that mixes with water to meet your calorie, hydration, and electrolyte needs – no matter what distance. The flavor is clean and light with no aftertaste. And the best part – it’s easy on the stomach (a big issue for many runners).

Island Boost

This is the fuel gel to beat all gels. It goes down easy (and stays down), and there’s no need to chug water along with it. Take Island Boost the moment you know you need energy to maintain performance levels and help ward off muscle aches. There are no artificial ingredients and no added sugar.

SunRype

These are fruit bars for grownups. If you are OK with chewing something while out on a long run, then SunRype bars are perfect. They are 100 percent fruit – no added sugar or artificial ingredients.

It may take some experimenting to find your go-to product that fits your particular needs. As I always say, choose your products wisely and choose those with the highest quality ingredients.
